My Story
Bill Minnix is a disabled United States Air Force veteran and lifelong advocate committed to protecting the rights, safety, and voices of the American people. For more than three decades, he has led successful efforts at both the state and federal levels, working to expose injustice, reform harmful policies, and improve the lives of veterans and civilians alike.
Bill’s advocacy began with a landmark fight against the abusive practices of private prisoner-transport companies, where he challenged then–Colorado Attorney General Janet Reno in U.S. Federal Court on grounds of cruel and unusual punishment. His work later expanded to Capitol Hill, where he collaborated with members of Congress to reform laws related to military sexual trauma. These efforts helped ensure that perpetrators—often commanders—could finally be held accountable and that survivors received long-overdue protections and benefits.
In 2019, after extensive work with Congressman Brian Mast and Senator Martha McSally, Bill played a key role in securing the passage of the Veterans Court Companion Act, signed into law by President Donald Trump. More recently, he worked with Oregon lawmakers to repeal the state’s controversial and harmful fire-hazard map, restoring fairness and transparency to affected property owners.
On August 27, 2025, Bill founded Oregon for the People, an advocacy platform dedicated to empowering Oregonians and confronting corruption, overreach, and harmful taxation. The organization’s first major initiative—a recall petition for Governor Tina Kotek—mobilized volunteers across the state and awakened a new wave of civic engagement. Although the recall effort was halted due to an erroneous cover sheet now under court review, the movement sparked a statewide call for unity and accountability.
Since the recall effort, Bill and his team of volunteers have ignited a grassroots revolution in Oregon. Their work energized voters, inspired unprecedented civic involvement, and set the pace for the recent No Tax Referendum, helping shape the state’s current political landscape.
Today, Oregon for the People is focused on ensuring that Oregonians—especially the 1.2 million unaffiliated voters—understand their voting options and have a strong, informed voice in the upcoming elections. Through voter education, candidate awareness, and continued advocacy, Bill Minnix remains committed to building a stronger, fairer Oregon for everyone.
